The Bauhaus4Med Sprint Event has landed!

The BAUHAUS4MED Sprint Event is a transnational open innovation initiative aiming to empower citizens, students, startups, and SMEs across the Mediterranean to co-create bold and sustainable solutions aligned with the New European Bauhaus (NEB) values of sustainability, aesthetics, and inclusion.

Through a collaborative and participatory approach, the Sprint Event seeks to transform local urban challenges into opportunities for green innovation, beauty in public space, and democratic engagement.

The main objectives

  • Fostering a culture of participatory innovation across Mediterranean cities and regions.
  • Supporting youth and civic entrepreneurship, encouraging new talent and boosting social innovation.
  • Strengthening local and regional ecosystems by connecting active citizens, institutions, and innovators.
  • Promoting NEB-aligned solutions to current and future urban and environmental challenges.
  • Advancing the digital and green transition through co-creation and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Building a shared Mediterranean vision for sustainable urban living.
  • Creating a lasting community of practice across public authorities, academia, businesses, and civil society.

 

Who Can Participate

At the Bootcamp, developers, startups, professionals, students, and anyone interested in participating and has an IDEA around the Bauhaus4Med Challenges that promote innovation, entrepreneurship and ways that improve daily life and promote green and sustainable transformation, are welcome to join.

The Challenges

All proposed ideas must be clearly aligned with the New European Bauhaus (NEB) principles, addressing the interconnected values of:

  • Sustainability (from climate goals to circularity),
  • Aesthetics (quality of experience and design),
  • and Inclusion (accessibility, social fairness, and participation).

Participants are encouraged to think holistically and creatively, delivering solutions that are not only technically sound, but also beautiful, inclusive, and impactful within their local Mediterranean context.

The BAUHAUS4MED Bootcamp calls for innovative ideas that address the following thematic areas inspired by local green transformation needs and NEB principles:

     Urban Green Transformation & Sustainability

  • Redesign of public spaces to support green, climate-adaptive urban development.
  • Nature-based solutions and green infrastructure to increase urban resilience.
  • Data-driven approaches to monitor environmental quality and promote liveability.

      (Aesthetic) Green Architecture

  • Sustainable, circular construction methods.
  • Integration of aesthetics and beauty into everyday spaces to enhance emotional well-being.
  • Architecture that reflects local identity while embracing NEB values.

Climate Neutral & Resilient Society

  • Solutions that reduce carbon footprints, promote energy efficiency, and increase social resilience.
  • Citizen-led initiatives to promote behavioural change and awareness.

Crowdsourcing & Citizen Participation

  • Tools to enhance civic engagement in green transition efforts.
  • Digital platforms to facilitate citizen input in local policy and planning.

Civic Crowdfunding

  • Community-led funding mechanisms for green transformation projects.
  • Transparent models that foster public trust and shared responsibility.

     

Direct Democracy & Participatory Decision-Making

  • Participatory budgeting, digital consultations, and decision-making platforms.
  • Inclusive mechanisms that reach underrepresented groups in urban governance.
