A Celebration of Innovation and Sustainability: The 1st Local Bauhaus Festival in Sarajevo
Sarajevo, 24th April 2025
The spirit of creativity, sustainability, and community transformation came alive during the 1st Local Bauhaus Festival in the City of Sarajevo! Organized by IFLA Europe in close cooperation with the City of Sarajevo, the event offered a vibrant platform to explore and embrace the core values of the New European Bauhaus (NEB).

Held in one of Europe’s most culturally rich cities, the festival brought together local citizens, urban planners, landscape architects, policymakers, students, and innovators — all united by a shared mission: to reimagine greener, more beautiful, and more inclusive living spaces for all.
Throughout the festival, participants had the opportunity to engage deeply with key themes, including:
- Understanding the NEB Principles — beauty, sustainability, and inclusion as drivers for change
- Promoting Sustainability and Green Transformation — practical strategies to transition towards eco-conscious urban development
- Exploring Innovative Green Living Spaces — new approaches to creating functional, aesthetic, and community-centered outdoor areas.
Interactive sessions, inspiring presentations, and on-site activities created a dynamic atmosphere where ideas could flourish, collaborations could be born, and a shared vision for Sarajevo’s greener future could take root.
The festival not only strengthened local commitment to the New European Bauhaus movement but also served as a launchpad for new initiatives under the Bauhaus4Med project, further reinforcing Sarajevo’s position as a forward-thinking city in the Mediterranean region.
